The nature reserve of the High Fens near Spa is also known as the Savannah of the North. This is due to the vast plains with grasses and the solitary trees and shrubs growing here.

A rugged environment, but a dream for true hikers and nature lovers! The soil here is extremely poor in nutrients, and the climate is downright arctic. Everything grows incredibly slowly here – it’s a place to relax, walk, and embrace slowness and calmness – something visitors find in natural landscapes like the High Fens.
